Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, also Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), reaffirmed that peace remains an indispensable factor for all societies and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) has done a great job as one of the leading and largest institutions of Asian political parties in the world on promoting peace, interfaith harmony and social cohesion, and shared prosperity for humanity.
The premier spoke on Saturday (Nov. 23) during the closing ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP at the CPP’s headquarters.
Samdech Thipadei expressed that the CPP is deeply honoured and proud to have hosted the ICAPP General Assembly twice, the first being in 2010, which was deemed a successful and fruitful event.
"I would like to reaffirm that peace remains an indispensable factor for all societies and that ICAPP has done a great job as a leading and largest institution of political parties in Asia to promote peace, interfaith harmony, social cohesion, and shared prosperity for humanity," the premier underscored.
Premier Hun Manet also reflected on Cambodia's history as a war-torn country, noting that lasting peace was only achievable through collective commitment and reconciliation. He called on all leaders to maintain peace, asserting that ICAPP represents a beacon of hope for future peace. He also commended the ICAPP president for ensuring the organisation’s sustainability, growth, and dynamism.
The premier further informed participants of the 12th General Assembly that Cambodia, once devastated by war, has now become one of the world's contributors to peacekeeping missions.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet reassured leaders of political parties from various countries that the pursuit of peace in Cambodia would not have been possible without unity and visionary leadership under the win-win policy led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Prime Minister Hun Manet recalled that the achievement of national unity and lasting peace in December 1998 laid the foundation for rebuilding the country. This included effective conflict resolution, comprehensive reforms in legal, institutional, and policy frameworks, and reintegrating Cambodia into regional and global communities. These efforts have enabled Cambodia to play an active role in advancing multilateral mechanisms and fostering an international order based on the rule of law.
