Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that peace is not solely the responsibility of any single nation but a collective effort to achieve and sustain lasting peace.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Nov. 23) during the closing ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of ICAPP at the CPP’s headquarters.

Samdech Thipadei pointed out that Cambodia's experience indicated how conflicts can be resolved, justice achieved, and war transformed into peace and development.

"When we reflect on Cambodia's history, we realise that peace is not the sole responsibility of any single nation. It is a shared endeavour, and therefore, we call on all countries, institutions, and individuals to work together to preserve and strive for sustain lasting peace," the premier underscored.

Prime Minister Hun Manet recalled that the achievement of national unity and lasting peace in December 1998 laid the foundation for rebuilding the country. This included effective conflict resolution, comprehensive reforms in legal, institutional, and policy frameworks, and reintegrating Cambodia into regional and global communities. These efforts have enabled Cambodia to play an active role in advancing multilateral mechanisms and fostering an international order based on the rule of law.

On the occasion, the premier further highlighted the achievements of the Khmer Rouge tribunal, which delivered justice for victims, peace for survivors, and lessons for humanity. Cambodia’s contributions to global peacekeeping and demining under the UN umbrella also reflected the nation’s resilience in overcoming a tragic past. These efforts also served as a global standard against cruelty and crimes against humanity, while showcasing Cambodia's transformation from a victim to an active peacekeeper and a globally recognised leader in demining.
