Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all nations to join the "Mine-Free World" mission to create a safer and more peaceful global community.

The premier spoke on Monday (Nov. 25) during the opening of the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World in Siem Reap province.

"Cambodia called on all countries to join us in this mission to build a safer and more peaceful world, not just for present but for future generations," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei said that we need to reaffirm global unity under the Ottawa Convention, a common document of humanity.

The Ottawa Convention, officially known as the “Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction”, is an international treaty that aims to eliminate anti-personnel landmines worldwide. It was adopted in Ottawa, Canada, in 1997 and entered into force on 1 March 1999.

In November last year, 164 parties to the Ottawa Convention endorsed Cambodia as the chair and host of the 5th Review Meeting of the Ottawa Convention. The meeting has been named the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on Mine Action.
