Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted Cambodia's strategic location at the heart of Southeast Asia, serving as a vital link between Asia and the Mekong sub-region. This advantageous position facilitates investment by reducing costs and enhancing transportation efficiency.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Nov. 26) at the Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit 2024 held at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.
Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s guiding principle: economic development is driven primarily by businesses and investors, not the government. He highlighted their pivotal role in fostering economic growth and innovation. The government’s role, he added, is to create an enabling environment where businesses thrive, innovation flourishes, and sustainable economic growth is achieved.
On the occasion, Premier Hun Manet highlighted Cambodia’s unique competitive advantage, setting it apart from other countries in the region. He reiterated the nation’s long-standing efforts to build, maintain, and sustain peace amid a turbulent global landscape—a stability many nations have yet to achieve. He underscored that peace and political stability are not only essential for attracting investors but also fundamental to sustained growth and development.
The prime minister also underlined that Cambodia is among the most open and free economies in Asia, with its policies firmly anchored in WTO principles and Cambodian laws and regulations. He noted that the country offers highly flexible and competitive incentive programs designed to support business growth and investment. Choosing Cambodia, he added, means more than selecting an investment destination—it signifies becoming a partner in building a sustainable future.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei also explained that the Cambodian government prioritizes regional connectivity through its comprehensive Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System plan. “We are not just building roads; we are creating trade corridors by integrating road, rail, and waterway networks,” he stated. He added that choosing Cambodia means selecting a location that minimizes costs and accelerates transportation efficiency.
