Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that Kampong Cham has become the first province to complete land registration, with the official proclamation ceremony to be held next month.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Nov. 26) during the closing session of the 2024 annual meeting of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.
“Next month, I will visit Kampong Cham province, which is the first province to complete the land registration survey. In the past, we were at war; I announced 15 provinces as mine-free zones. Now, we are beginning to declare provinces that have completed land measurement and registration, starting with Kampong Cham,” the premier underscored.
According to the premier, completing the nationwide land registration is akin to extinguishing the flames of land disputes. The Royal Government, he said, can no longer remain passive in addressing land disputes.
In this regard, Samdech Thipadei instructed all provincial and municipal governors to expedite efforts to complete this task as planned. Specifically, for provinces that have already received real estate certificates, he urged the prompt distribution of these documents to the public after they are finalised by the Ministry of Land Management. This would ensure people receive their land titles directly and without delay.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that if the work is completed as planned, the year 2029 would mark the 40th anniversary of the declaration of private property ownership for the people, a policy first introduced by Samdech Techo Hun Sen in 1989.
