Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged provincial governors to accelerate the distribution of land titles to residents and instructed the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction to resolve land disputes. As a result, land disputes have gradually decreased, and the issuance of land titles to citizens is expected to be completed by 2029.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Nov. 26) during the closing session of the 2024 annual meeting of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia has approved an additional budget of USD 100 million to support the land registration process, aiming to complete it during the seventh-mandate. This initiative aims to resolve land disputes quickly and establish clear land boundaries for firefighting and other management purposes.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that land disputes are not new, and while it's important to be patient, immediate action is required to address the issue. Samdech Thipadei noted that the root cause of these disputes is the lack of clear land boundaries and management plans.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "I urge the governors of Phnom Penh and other provinces to expedite the distribution of land titles. Some of these titles are already prepared and should be sent as soon as possible to ensure that people can receive them for personal management."

Samdech Thipadei further directed the urgent completion of land measurements, identification of plots, and the handing over of title deeds to the people as a means of resolving land disputes. The demarcation and issuance of land titles will not only end conflicts but also improve people's livelihoods and contribute to the economy. Approximately one million plots of land have been measured, with another one million remaining to be addressed.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that over the past 15 months, the Royal Government has made significant progress in addressing land issues. This matter is of utmost importance and requires careful handling. He also called on the people to trust the Royal Government, assuring them that the government is committed to alleviating their difficulties.
