Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that over the past 15 months, the Royal Government has actively addressed the plight of victims of high-interest rate fraud. While measures have been implemented, some actions were deliberately not publicised.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Nov. 26) during the closing session of the 2024 annual meeting of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.

“Why have I not spoken much about Borey issues over the past 15 months? If asked whether the prime minister has ignored these matters, the answer is no. Minister Say Samal has provided me with regular updates. In some cases, I have had to intervene personally to push for consensus and resolve disputes, but we have refrained from broadcasting everything through the media to avoid turning these matters into a bigger focus. The ultimate goal is to bring justice and resolve issues for the victims,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei highlighted that while some efforts have been kept quiet, the people’s trust lies in knowing that the Royal Government has not ignored their suffering. “We have consistently worked to resolve issues, but not everything needs to be publicised, as doing so can complicate negotiations and hinder resolutions,” he noted.

On the occasion, the premier also cited an example from a recent land dispute in which a victim posted their case on Facebook. “The mere appearance of the prime minister’s representative or Samdech Techo’s lawyer can escalate tensions. Some parties refuse to cooperate, aiming instead to ‘win’ the situation. This makes resolution even more challenging,” he explained.

Over the past 15 months, numerous disputes have been resolved, and the Royal Government remains committed to addressing ongoing issues based on fair and practical principles.

Samdech Thipadei believed in the Government’s ability to implement a “win-win” formula to resolve complex problems, with the expectation that these efforts will lead to improvements in the real estate sector and overall progress for the country.
