Banteay Meanchey (FN), Nov. 29 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet mocked Sam Rainsy, the leader of an overseas illegal opposition group, who has been involved in politics but fled after losing support from the public.

The premier spoke on Friday (Nov. 29) at the inauguration of new achievements in Boeng Chungrok Techo Win-Win development zone in Banteay Meanchey Province.

Samdech Thipadei's remarks followed the defection of former supporters of Sam Rainsy, who returned to Cambodia to join with the Royal Government. Recently, Hay Vanna, a member of the opposition youth in Japan, also announced his separation from Sam Rainsy and his illegal opposition groups abroad, offering to serve the country.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "Whoever shouts from outside, let them shout! (Sam Rainsy) is out of breath, and I pity him sometimes. The youth who once believed in him are gone. Politicians from his generation have resigned or left; former CNRP, MPs who were once with him have joined the CPP. Now, even the youth in Japan are abandoning him [...] because the truth is clear and easy to understand."

Sam Rainsy had previously called on the people, particularly the residents of the Boeung Chungrok Techo Win-win Development Zone, to join a movement to overthrow the Royal Government. He deceived the youth in Cambodia and abroad, including in Japan and Korea, urging them to demonstrate against the government. In contrast, Samdech Thipadei called for unity to prevent illegal movements that could lead to conflict.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued that, "There are those who try to incite trouble, but I want to point out that the story of Boeung Chungrok is a story of development, not destruction. We believe in the Royal Government’s ability to continue developing the country, maintaining peace and stability, and creating a prosperous future for the next generation."
