Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 5 – The Cambodian scarf, known as krama, has been inscribed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Asunción, Paraguay on 4 December 2024.
In a congratulatory message, Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary expressed pride in this historic achievement, stating, “This is a great accomplishment for the nation and its people, demonstrating our commitment to preserving the krama as a heritage for future generations.”
She also expressed her sincere gratitude to the spirits of His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, and ancestors, who contributed to building, preserving, and passing down Cambodia’s unique cultural heritage and national identity to future generations.
