Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 7 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, President of the Regional Islamic Da'wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Peace Palace.
Taking this occasion, the president of the RISEAP expressed his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its support in hosting RISEAP’s 20th General Assembly in Phnom Penh — the first such event held in the country. He provided an overview of RISEAP, which was founded in 1980 by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister to promote mutual understanding and respect between religions, contributing to the creation of a peaceful and harmonious society.
In addition, he highlighted Cambodia’s potential and the opportunities available to further strengthen cooperation between Malaysia and Cambodia. He noted that Sarawak, Malaysia, could play a key role in fostering these relations and enhancing connections between the two nations.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his pleasure and deep appreciation for RISEAP’s decision to hold its 20th General Assembly in Cambodia. The premier stated that this event helps to showcase Cambodia as a peaceful and secure country to the world.
The premier affirmed that peace and stability have provided the foundation for religious harmony in Cambodian society. The Royal Government is committed to upholding the values and rights associated with religious freedom and actively supports all religious communities, including the Muslim community, in promoting harmony.
Prime Minister Hun Manet also agreed with the head of Sarawak’s administration that Cambodia and Malaysia have numerous opportunities to strengthen and expand their relations and cooperation.
Both sides discussed enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as education, tourism, energy, and the potential for direct flights between Sarawak and Cambodia, further fostering people-to-people connections.
