Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 7 – Over the past week, the KOICA Cambodia Office conducted a feasibility study for the proposed Police Academy Capacity-Building Project, requested by the Ministry of Interior as a new initiative for 2026.

The study involved Korean experts specialising in police education, investigation and forensic science, with active collaboration from the Ministry of Interior’s Police Academy of Cambodia (PAC) and the General Commissariat of National Police (GCNP).

The week’s agenda included high-level engagements such as a courtesy visit to Abhisantibindit Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on Wednesday, followed by field visits and discussions with relevant departments within PAC and the National Police. The study concluded on Friday with a wrap-up meeting chaired by Touch Visalsok, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior, and Choi Moon Jung, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia.

The feasibility study outlined the project as the first step toward advancing forensic science in Cambodia:

Total Budget: USD 13.5 million, increased from the original proposal of USD 10 million

Duration: 2026–2030 (five years).

Focus Areas:

1. Enhancing forensic science infrastructure

2. Improving police capabilities in forensic investigation and analysis

3. Improving education quality in investigation, forensic science and analysis, along with the training of instructors

On Wednesday, Abhisantibindit Sar Sokha praised KOICA for its contributions to Cambodia's development through various cooperation projects. He also expressed hope that, if implemented, the project would significantly enhance the capacity of both central and local police forces in Cambodia, while strengthening the bilateral relations between Korea and Cambodia.

Furthermore, Touch Visalsok expressed deep gratitude to KOICA for its unwavering support at the wrap-up meeting on Friday, emphasising the project’s significance in enhancing Cambodia’s law enforcement capacity and contributing to economic resilience. He highlighted its role in raising Cambodia’s profile both locally and globally.

KOICA reaffirmed its commitment to fostering Cambodia’s development and strengthening bilateral ties. Based on the results of the feasibility study, KOICA Cambodia Office plans to submit the project for approval in KOICA's 2026 new project review. Our office will do its utmost to ensure that the project passes the review and is implemented in 2026, meeting Cambodia's expectations.
