Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 10 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called for greater attention to human resources in the health sector, emphasising the importance of capacity building, professional ethics, and adherence to codes of conduct.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Dec. 10) during a groundbreaking for the University of Health Sciences Hospital in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also advised regulating the operations of private health institutions to ensure proper compliance with service standards.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "Focusing on people involves both quantitative and qualitative efforts. We prioritise quality by building capacity as a foundation, strengthening professional ethics, and upholding codes of conduct, particularly for both public and private healthcare providers."

The premier instructed all health professionals to register with the Health Professions Council, possess valid professional licenses, adhere to ethical and professional standards, and practice within the scope of their profession. He also urged regular participation in capacity development programs.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei also underlined the need for healthcare professionals in both the public and private sectors to prioritise preventive and primary care services, aiming to reduce the progression of diseases into severe or chronic conditions that place financial strain on patients, families, the healthcare system, and social protection schemes.

In addition, building and maintaining trusting relationships with patients and their families through ethical and professional communication. This includes involving patients and families in treatment decisions and providing knowledge about primary prevention, preventive treatments, chronic disease management, and patient care.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also reminded healthcare providers to uphold their honor and dignity by adhering to professional ethics, delivering health services with honesty, integrity, and equity.

Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that no patient should face discrimination or denial of medical care based on personal circumstances, family background, religious beliefs, or political affiliations.
