Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted that rescuing victim of human trafficking is the duty of the Royal Government of Cambodia, with the aim to assist all individuals without discrimination, whether they are Cambodians living overseas or foreigners living in Cambodia.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Dec. 12) during the commemoration of the 12th National Day Against Human Trafficking, held at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh.
“The Cambodian people abroad are no different from foreign nationals living in Cambodia. The priority and value of our assistance is to be offered without discrimination. This is our approach because people, regardless of nationality, face similar difficulties. We help other countries as we help our own, much like during the COVID19 outbreak when foreigners in Cambodia were also vaccinated alongside Cambodians,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei added that such assistance requires international cooperation and reflects a humanitarian duty to prevent human trafficking by strengthening law enforcement mechanisms and enhancing the use of technology.
The premier also expressed gratitude to both national and international partners involved in combatting human trafficking. He stressed that this is a shared responsibility of all humanity, not just Cambodia, the United States, or ASEAN nations.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia's strong commitment to addressing all forms of cross-border crime, particularly human trafficking. He highlighted the importance of enforcing laws, dismantling criminal networks, and upholding international standards that promote respect for human rights and safety.
Reflecting on the efforts of the seventh mandate, he noted that over the past year, the Ministry of Interior has actively worked to enforce laws and address security issues, including combatting human trafficking in all its forms.
