Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the country's firm stance on combating all forms of transnational crime, particularly human trafficking, and on strengthening efforts to prevent and suppress criminal activities in all forms.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Dec. 12) during the commemoration of the 12th National Day Against Human Trafficking, held at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains committed to upholding standards that promote respect for human rights and protect public safety.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “I would like to solemnly declare that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains highly committed to combating all forms of transnational crime, especially human trafficking, promoting the prevention and suppression of criminal tactics, and continuing to implement all standards that support the promotion of respect for human rights.”
Cambodia has been actively involved in addressing these issues by participating in the development and adoption of the ASEAN Convention against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM). Notably, the United Nations Migration Agency recognised Cambodia’s commitment by awarding the country for its efforts under the Global Compact for Migration initiative, particularly for its dedication to protecting the rights and interests of migrant workers and shielding them from abuse and exploitation.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed hope that all friendly countries would adopt similar commitments, demonstrating mutual respect and collaboration in the fight against transnational crime—a shared threat that disrupts peace and security. He underscored the importance of cooperation, urging countries to avoid making baseless conclusions or accusations that could harm good friendships and regional partnerships.
Samdech Thipadei instructed leaders, civil servants, authorities, and law enforcement agencies at all levels to enhance vigilance against various crimes. He urged them to focus on effective border management to prevent the root causes of human trafficking and other abuses.
Samdech Thipadei called on all citizens to join forces in preventing crimes, protecting children and community members from victimisation, and supporting victims through education, mental health care, and rehabilitation. He underlined the importance of public cooperation in reporting crimes, assisting law enforcement, and ensuring community safety. Finally, he urged people to refrain from participating in, supporting, or benefiting from any criminal acts.
