Ankara (FN), Dec. 13 – Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged both the Cambodian and Turkish sides to work together to promote economic, trade, and investment relations in order to achieve the target of USD 1 billion in trade volume.
Samdech Techo spoke at a joint press conference with Numan Kurtulmuş, President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, held on 12 December 2024 in Ankara, Türkiye.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated that the foundation of the Cambodia-Türkiye relationship lies in strengthening economic, trade, and investment ties, urging both nations to prioritize this objective. He expressed confidence that the USD 1 billion trade target is achievable, even with gradual progress. Highlighting Cambodia's success in surpassing USD 1 billion in trade with other countries, he noted that similar milestones could be reached with Türkiye. Despite differences in population size—Türkiye's over 80 million to Cambodia's 17 million— Samdech Techo underscored Cambodia's strong purchasing power and competitive exportable products.
On this occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Numan Kurtulmuş for inviting him to visit Türkiye and for the warm hospitality and fruitful negotiations. He also expressed satisfaction with Numan Kurtulmuş's statement on Cambodia-Türkiye relations, as well as the shared views on international and regional issues.
Samdech Techo expressed his pleasure in visiting Türkiye again, following his initial visit in 2018 as Prime Minister. He highlighted the milestone achievements since then, including Cambodia's establishment of its embassy in Ankara in 2019, building on Türkiye's earlier move to open its embassy in Phnom Penh in 2013.
Samdech Techo also thanked the Turkish government and people for their support to Cambodia, including providing scholarships to Cambodian students, and expressed hope that Türkiye would continue to strengthen Cambodia's human resource capacity.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen considered his invitation to visit Türkiye as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries, which is celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He expressed confidence that through the efforts of the Royal Governments, the legislatures, and the people of both countries, cooperation would continue to grow. He praised the embassies of both countries for their efforts to expand trade.
