Ankara (FN), Dec. 13 – Cambodian President of the Senate pledged to support Türkiye in its efforts to elevate ASEAN’s status as a complete dialogue partner, speaking at a joint press conference with Numan Kurtulmuş, President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, held on 12 December 2024 in Ankara, Türkiye.

Samdech Techo noted that Türkiye’s role is crucial within ASEAN and will help strengthen ties between ASEAN and Europe.

"Regarding the sectoral dialogue between Türkiye and ASEAN, although there is currently a moratorium on accepting new partnerships, I reaffirm my policy and efforts during my tenure as Prime Minister to elevate Türkiye’s status as a full dialogue partner of ASEAN. Although this requires consensus within ASEAN, Cambodia is a member that supports and contributes to this decision, alongside other partners, to strengthen this initiative. This is significant in the relationship between the two regions, where Türkiye is part of both Asia and Europe. I hope that Türkiye’s role will serve as a bridge, enhancing the relationship between ASEAN and Türkiye," Samdech Techo underscored.

Türkiye has been engaged with ASEAN since 1999 and has consistently worked to deepen its relationship through active participation in ASEAN meetings.
