Kampot (FN), Dec. 13 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet commended and congratulated the significant achievements in Kampot province, particularly the official inauguration of the Kampot Multipurpose Port and the International Tourist Port.
The premier spoke on Friday (Dec. 13) at the opening ceremony of the 11th Sea Festival, 3rd round in Kampot Province.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “We have recently celebrated two major achievements in the tourism sector. First, the Kampot Multipurpose Port, a deep-water port that will boost both industry and tourism. Second, the temporary inauguration of the International Tourist Port, developed in partnership with the Asian Development Bank.”
Along with the recent achievements, Samdech Thipadei addressed previous doubts raised about the feasibility of the ports, with some suggesting that their construction would be a waste of resources. He assured that the Royal Government of Cambodia had conducted thorough studies and planning before deciding to proceed with the projects.
The premier further added that the new ports will enhance Kampot province’s connectivity with other provinces and neighbouring countries. This was evidenced by the arrival of a Thai cruise ship, the first vessel to dock at the International Tourist Port, immediately following its inauguration on 12 December.
In this regard, Prime Minister Hun Manet also praised the cooperation of relevant ministries, institutions, and the Kampot provincial administration in achieving these milestones, which hold significant value for the tourism sector.
It should be noted that Kampot province has become a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors for weekend getaways and holidays. The increasing influx of tourists is attributed to the continuous development of new tourism products, providing more diverse options for travellers.
