Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet clarified that the aim of launching the digital platform for informal economy registration is to support citizens, not to impose taxes.
The premier spoke on Monday (Dec. 16) at the launching of the digital platform for informal economy registration, held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
“Informal economy workers may hesitate to register due to concerns over obligations or potential costs. I want to reiterate that this registration is entirely voluntary, without coercion or fees. There is no deadline or requirement to register immediately. This initiative is designed to benefit you without imposing any burdens. It is a voluntary process that provides an official identity and opens pathways to development and support,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei added, “Another concern may be taxation. Let me assure you that informal workers with an annual turnover of less than 250 million Riel are not subject to taxes. This includes exemption from patent tax and any tax declaration requirements. This principle is clear and firm.”
On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet stressed that the digital registration of informal economy workers serves two key purposes: first, to assist rather than burden them, and second, to remain voluntary without compulsion.
