Sihanoukville (FN), Dec. 16 – A US Navy warship, the USS SAVANNAH (LCS 28), carrying 103 sailors, arrived in Cambodia on Monday (Dec. 16) and docked at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

Led by Daniel A. Sledz, the ship’s commander, the US Navy delegation will stay in Cambodia for an official five-day visit from 16-20 December 2024.

The arrival was warmly received by Mean Savoeun, Deputy Chief of Staff of Ream Naval Base, along with several other officers from the base.

In a press release, the Ministry of National Defense stated that the port call by a US Navy ship is intended to strengthen and expand the friendship and enhance bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the US.

The Ministry also noted that since 2007, a total of 27 US Navy warships have visited Cambodia, marking this as the first such visit in eight years. During the ship's five-day port call, the delegation has planned a series of activities aimed at promoting cultural exchange and fostering cooperation.

The planned activities include a meeting with the commander of the Ream Naval Base, discussions with leaders of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration, a friendly sports competition between the crew of the US Navy warship and the Cambodian Navy to promote camaraderie and teamwork, as well as several other goodwill initiatives.

This visit represents another significant milestone in the growing partnership between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the United States.
