Kandal (FN), Dec. 17 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the company behind the Mekong Quay City development project in Akreiy Ksatr City for allocating land for public infrastructure, speaking on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at the groundbreaking for the “Mekong Quay City” development project in Akreiy Ksatr City, Kandal Province.

“I noted in the company’s report that one-third of the 210 hectares of land is reserved for public infrastructure. This is the correct approach because citizens need more than just buildings or places to stay; they need liveable surroundings. Therefore, considering public spaces, parks, recreational areas, and sports facilities is crucial for enhancing citizens’ quality of life. I appreciate this thoughtful consideration,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added that with land prices rising, preserving public land is essential. Although the cost of reserving such land is significant, the economic and social benefits it brings are substantial. He stressed the importance of well-planned infrastructure, such as connecting roads and internal city streets, and urged the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction to collaborate with the developers to ensure proper preparation.

On the occasion, the premier also proposed dividing the Mekong Quay City development into commercial, residential, and tourist areas, with appropriate road networks, including bus routes, to facilitate travel for citizens.

Prime Minister Hun Manet further stated that the Mekong Quay City project would include hospitals, schools, and health centres, which are essential facilities for the community. The development also features affordable housing options, providing opportunities for middle-class families.

Samdech Thipadei concluded that the Mekong Quay City project is not merely about building residential complexes and physical infrastructure. It aims to provide soft infrastructure that enhances citizens’ livelihoods. The area will be transformed from a wasteland into a developed zone with concrete roads, high-rise buildings, public parks, health centres, and living spaces, contributing to Phnom Penh’s growing reputation.
