Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 18 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), commended the Royal Government's recent initiative to register informal economy groups through a digital platform. This initiative provides greater convenience and support to those in the informal economy and encourages increased attention to this sector.
Samdech Techo spoke on Wednesday (Dec. 18) during a closing conference on 2024 achievements and future directions for CPP Mass Movement Committee, held at the CPP’s headquarter.
At the same time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also praised the Royal Government for its revenue collection efforts and urged it to focus on maximising revenue collection at both the national and sub-national levels.
Please be noted that on 16 December 2024, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet inaugurated the digital registration platform for informal economy workers. He hailed the platform as a significant step forward in implementing the "National Strategy on Informal Economy Development 2023-2028."
Key features of the portal include AI-assisted technology to streamline data entry, automatic extraction of data from identity cards, access for officials and back-end staff via the CamDigiKey portal to ensure accurate identification, data exchange through the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Cambodian Data Exchange (CamDx) portal, and verification of certificates via the verify.gov.kh portal. The system also verifies user data with identification and government records from relevant ministries and institutions to provide benefit packages to people in the informal economy.
The digital platform also offers multiple registration options, free of charge and on a voluntary basis, relying on self-declared information. The registration targets include micro-enterprises, workers and employees of micro-enterprises, occasional workers, and self-employed individuals in the informal economy.
Informal economy workers who register on the digital system will receive a digital certificate, which holds legal value and can be used to access government interventions and benefits.
