Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 29 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recalled the speech of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of the National Military Police General Sao Sokha stating that youth today are fortunate to enjoy sports in peace, unlike those in countries such as Ukraine and the Middle East, which are threatened by war.

The premier spoke on Sunday (Dec. 29) at the friendly football match celebrating “Peace Day in Cambodia” at Moradok Techo National Stadium.

“Sao Sokha met me and shared a thought that I would like to convey to the youth here and those watching at home. Sao Sokha said that young Cambodians today are lucky to watch football at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, where thousands of youths are seated, enjoying the event. Meanwhile, youths in some countries are living in war zones. Many young people there are dying or living in fear. In some places, while people are playing football, shells are falling, families are suffering," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei continued, recalling that Sao Sokha reflected on his experience in 1975, when he sat at the National Olympic Stadium. However, instead of watching football, he watched people being evacuated to the provinces. In some areas, there were the killing fields. Cambodian children today are fortunate, sitting in the Moradok Techo National Stadium —an achievement that did not exist in the past—thanks to peace.

On the occasion, the premier emphasised that today's youth are fortunate, but this privilege is not coincidental. The good fortune mentioned by General Sao Sokha is the result of sacrifices made by the youth and older generation in the past. That is why today’s youth have the opportunity to enjoy events like this. Therefore, everyone must unite to preserve peace for the future.
