Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 7 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), stated that peace cannot endure without national reconciliation, justice, and sustainable, inclusive development, speaking on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at the 46th Anniversary of January 7 Victory Day.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underscored, "We must also clearly understand that peace will not last long without national reconciliation, justice, and sustainable, inclusive development." He underlined that peace and reconciliation are global challenges, especially as wars continue in certain regions, involving numerous actors that pose a threat to human civilisation.

In addition, Samdech Techo highlighted the hardship of people living in conflict zones, crying out for peace that has been lost, uncertain of when peace will return.

Samdech Techo continued that for Cambodia, although the country has enjoyed 26 years of complete peace, peace remains a crucial issue in the daily lives of its people. A small number of extremists still attempt to incite divisive politics in society, aiming to sway the people, the armed forces, and civil servants to act against the legitimate government. This remains a real threat to peace.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined that peace is the foundation for discussing human rights, democracy, and development. He urged everyone to deepen their commitment to preserving peace, ensuring that this hard-won peace lasts indefinitely in Cambodia. He made it clear that no individual or group should be allowed to undermine this peace.

At the same time, Samdech Techo believed it is time to enact a law that defines any person or group who plans or conspires to create anti-extremist movements, cause chaos and insecurity in society, incite conflict with other states, or attempt to overthrow the legitimate government as terrorists who must be brought to justice in order to protect peace.
