Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 7 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), urged a shift in perspective, replacing the phrase "young people are strong, and old people know the way" with "young people are strong, know the way, and old people have experience”.

Samdech Techo spoke on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at the 46th Anniversary of January 7 Victory Day at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh.

On this occasion, Samdech Techo explained that as someone who has held leadership positions within the collective leadership framework since 1979, he understands the comparative effectiveness of work between earlier governments and subsequent administrations. He noted that the latter has often been faster and more effective than expected.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that history has demonstrated how some older individuals misguided younger generations, including in Cambodia. “Who caused the problems in 1970? It was the older generation who misguided the youth. But since 1979, our officials have been young leaders. Even Samdech Heng Samrin and Samdech Chea Sim were only 40 years old at the time, and we have worked continuously since then,” he remarked.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also highlighted that he became Prime Minister at the age of just 32, illustrating how younger leaders possess both strength and knowledge, while older leaders bring valuable experience. He credited the older generation of peace leaders with significant achievements, including liberating Cambodia from the genocidal Pol Pot regime, preventing its return, addressing widespread hunger left by the regime, and securing peace for the nation.
