Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 9 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to prioritising rice as a long-term strategic crop for Cambodia.
The premier received a courtesy call by a delegation from Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) on 8 January 2025 at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei expressed his high regard for the rice sector, which he recognised as vital for the economy and the livelihoods of Cambodian citizens.
Neak Oknha Hun Lak, President of the Policy Advisory Council of the CRF, respectfully reported to Samdech Thipadei on the federation’s progress and activities in promoting Cambodian rice exports to international markets. Neak Oknha also emphasized the federation’s efforts to improving the quality of Cambodian rice, including purchasing rice from farmers, organizing drying processes, managing storage, and exporting rice to international markets.
Samdech Thipadei highly commended the CRF for its collaboration with the Royal Government in developing the rice sector. The premier highlighted the critical role of agriculture in promoting the livelihoods of the people and driving Cambodia’s socioeconomic development.
Premier Hun Manet stressed the Royal Government’s commitment to prioritizing rice as a long-term strategic crop for Cambodia. He underscored the importance of implementing necessary policies to support rice cultivation and ensure the competitiveness of Cambodia’s rice sector. This includes building infrastructure to streamline transportation and reduce production costs, promoting domestic supply chain ownership, and expanding exports to international markets.
Taking this occasion, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the Cambodia Rice Federation to further strengthen its collaboration with relevant governmental ministries and institutions to boost direct exports to international markets with higher added value. He also urged the federation to provide technical training to farmers to improve product quality and productivity, as well as to widely disseminate information on the progress and development of Cambodia’s rice production.
