Pursat (FN), Jan. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on Sam Rainsy to abandon his efforts to change the Royal Government through undemocratic means, speaking on Monday (Jan. 20) at the inauguration of the newly established village “Bun Rany Sen Chey Damnak Troyeung” in Pro’ngel commune, Phnom Kravanh district, Pursat province.

In his speech, Samdech Thipadei questioned Rainsy, asking whether he had consulted the Cambodian People’s Party supporters, who make up over 80% of voters. "Do they agree with his plans to destabilize the country and overthrow the government?" Samdech Thipadei emphasized that true democracy means listening to the people’s will, which is expressed through elections held every five years.

Commenting on Sam Rainsy’s repeated incitement of citizens to deviate from the democratic path, Samdech Thipadei stated: “I no longer address Sam Rainsy as an elder, as he has shown himself to be cruel. Now, he is attacking entire families out of vengeance. From now on, I will refer to him as the 'Prisoner with 10 Legs and 5 Eyes' due to his relentless cruelty. Every day, he incites rebellion, calling on people to rise with weapons. Just recently, he claimed the government doesn't care about the people and called for rebellion to overthrow the Hun family’s government. The next day, he made yet another baseless accusation against CLV-DTA."

Samdech Thipadei added, “In the end, he argued that elections should no longer take place. He declared that real democracy means revolting and overthrowing the government, using tactics similar to those seen in Bangladesh.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that Cambodia’s development could have been more significant if not for the 1970 coup, which plunged the nation into the flames of war, causing severe setbacks and forcing the country to start rebuilding from zero.
