Pursat (FN), Jan. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet criticised accusations made by opposition groups abroad, claiming that the Royal Government has done nothing to support farmers. He noted that such allegations are unjust and reflect a one-sided perspective that fails to acknowledge the government's continuous efforts in assisting farmers.

The premier spoke on Monday (Jan. 20) at the inauguration of the newly established village “Bun Rany Sen Chey Damnak Troyeung” in Pro’ngel commune, Phnom Kravanh district, Pursat province.

“Those living thousands of kilometres away believe that the Royal Government has done nothing for farmers. This is unfair and represents a narrow perspective that disregards the decades of efforts made by the Royal Government to support farmers and develop the agricultural sector. We will continue to construct dams, reservoirs, and main canal systems to benefit our farmers,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing agricultural challenges and called on national and sub-national authorities to work together to resolve farmers' issues. He stressed that the Royal Government's support for the agricultural sector goes beyond price concerns, highlighting efforts to provide land, establish water systems, and develop various supporting infrastructures to enhance agricultural productivity.

Responding to accusations from opposition groups abroad, Samdech Thipadei questioned their motives, asking, "If they truly care about Cambodian farmers, why don't they push foreign countries to open markets for Cambodian agricultural products? Instead, they incite others and call on foreign nations to reject Cambodian goods."

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet mocked the extremist opposition groups, particularly the faction led by the convicted Sam Rainsy, accusing them of neglecting farmers' interests. He pointed out that rather than helping to secure markets for Cambodian farmers, they are preoccupied with lobbying the United States and Europe to revoke preferential tariffs on Cambodian goods.
