Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to strengthen inspections of vehicles exceeding the permissible weight limit to ensure the long-term durability of the country’s road and bridge infrastructure.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Jan. 23) during the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “Regarding the inspection of vehicles exceeding the permissible weight limit, the ministry should establish a clear mechanism to enhance the effectiveness of management, control, and prevention. This will help ensure the long-term maintenance and sustainability of road and bridge infrastructure.”
Prime Minister Hun Manet also urged the ministry to enhance collaboration with relevant ministries, institutions, and development partners to review, prepare, and amend legal frameworks supporting priority sectors. These include revising the Law on Land Traffic and the Law on Roads, as well as drafting new laws on Land Transportation and Railways.
On the occasion, the premier also instructed the ministry to continue developing documents, legal standards, master plans, and policies to comprehensively support the public works and transportation sector. These efforts should align with Cambodia’s current and future needs to ensure sustainable development in the sector.
