Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that in the past 17 months of the seventh-mandate Royal Government, numerous major achievements in the public works and transport sector— including airports, roads, bridges, and ports— have been officially inaugurated, aligning with the priorities of the Pentagonal Strategy Phase One.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jan. 23) during the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that, since the beginning of the seventh-mandate Royal Government, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has achieved significant milestones in response to the priorities of the Pentagonal Strategy Phase One. He particularly outlined two key visions: (1) improving transport services through development and ongoing modernisation by integrating digital technology to ensure fast, efficient, transparent, convenient, and reliable services; and (2) promoting the integration of intermodal transport systems and the development of transport infrastructure to ensure quality, safety, sustainability, resilience, and inclusiveness.

“I can confidently say that over the past 17 months, we have inaugurated numerous major achievements in the public works sector, including the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, National Road No. 5, the bridge over the Bassac River at Chak Angre, and the port in Preah Sihanouk province. Additionally, the Phnom Penh Techo International Airport is scheduled to be inaugurated in July, along with many other achievements,” Samdech Thipadei underscored.

The premier noted that infrastructure development— whether on land, water, or air— remains essential, as the transportation of goods via road and sea continues to be a priority. He stressed that infrastructure projects must be interconnected to ensure long-term economic support.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also underlined that the ministry’s achievements thus far have significantly contributed to improving connectivity for travel and transportation. These developments have facilitated economic diversification and created new opportunities, including attracting direct investment and foreign tourists to further promote socio-economic growth.
