Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the continued use of a mobile app introduced by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to manage driving license penalties and fines for traffic violations.
The initiative aims to promote compliance with road traffic laws and reduce traffic accidents to the lowest possible level.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Jan. 23) during the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “Collaborate further with the Ministry of Interior, especially the National Police, to enhance road safety, enforce road traffic laws more strictly, and promote the use of the mobile app for managing driving license penalties and fines. This technology, implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, is an important tool for improving compliance with traffic laws and minimising traffic accidents.”
Prime Minister Hun Manet also underlined the need for stricter alcohol control measures, particularly at night, and urged greater attention to road traffic incidents. He expressed concern over the high number of fatalities caused by traffic accidents.
In 2024, there were 2,844 road accidents nationwide. According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, these accidents resulted in 1,509 deaths, marking a decrease of 81 fatalities, or 5 per cent, compared to 2023, which recorded 1,590 deaths.
