Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the Kampot International Tourism Port will be officially inaugurated on 3 April 2025. This port aims to enhance long-term, integrated connectivity for travel and transportation.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jan. 23) during the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the construction of the Kampot International Tourism Port is supported by financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Samdech Thipadei underscored, “There is significant interest in this port. When the Funan Techo canal construction site was opened, someone inquired whether the international tourism port in Kampot had been abandoned. The answer is no; it is progressing and serves as a vital factor for connectivity and energy integration.”

Samdech Thipadei continued that as long as goods continue to be transported by road, the construction of road, water, and air infrastructure will continue and remain operational for hundreds of years to come. Therefore, it is essential to build an integrated infrastructure that prepares for the long-term.

Prime Minister Hun Manet commended the Ministry of Public Works and Transport for its achievements in facilitating the integration of travel and transportation, as well as contributing to economic diversification and seizing new opportunities, such as attracting direct investment and foreign tourists, to drive socio-economic development.

It should be noted that the Kampot International Tourism Port covers an area of four hectares in Chum Kriel Village, Chum Kriel Commune, Teuk Chhou District, Kampot Province. Construction began in August 2018 and was completed by the end of 2022, with a budget of over USD 11 million, financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Kampot International Tourism Port will connect the main waterway systems between Kampot Province, Preah Sihanouk Province, and Kep Province. It will also link the sea cruise route with tourist ports in Phu Quoc, Viet Nam, and various tourist ports in Thailand, facilitating easier docking for tourist ships.

On 12 December 2024, the Kampot International Tourism Port Development Company, an investment partner with the Royal Government of Cambodia, launched a trial run of its services. During this trial, a cruise ship carrying more than 100 international tourists successfully and safely docked after its voyage from the tourist port in Phu Quoc, Viet Nam, and continued its journey to Koh Rong, Preah Sihanouk Province.
