Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to explore the development of waterway infrastructure networks and enhance water and sea transport operations to create a more integrated system.

This initiative aims to promote competitiveness and support long-term national economic growth.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jan. 23) during the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "promote the development of waterway infrastructure networks and water and sea transport operations by exploring the potential for integrating them with multimodal transport networks, including roads, railways, and ports. Priority should be given to connecting urban areas, townships, agricultural production zones, industrial regions, tourism sites, and coastal areas."

In addition, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the construction of infrastructure that includes deep-water container ports, multipurpose ports, tourism ports, and port business centers. He underlined the development of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a regional port and logistics hub to enhance competitiveness and contribute to sustained national economic growth.

At the same time, the premier continued to advocate for the implementation of logistics infrastructure that fosters greater interconnectivity among economic centers in the central, eastern, and southwestern regions. He also highlighted the importance of establishing connections to areas with economic, tourism, cultural, and historical potential, as well as border regions. This includes the construction of the Tonle Sap River Bridge and the road connecting Preah Vihear with Champasak, along with other roads linking to the border ring.
