Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 6 – The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) announced plans to establish a digital park aimed at supporting new digital businesses and fostering a digital community in Cambodia.

Hak Sokheng, MPTC Undersecretary of State, spoke on Thursday (Feb. 6) at the ministry's annual conference to review 2020-2024 work on the journey toward digital transformation, and outline future directions.

Sokheng underlined that the digital park will serve as a central hub to support digital startups by providing administrative and compliance assistance, connecting businesses to industries and digital skills training, and linking them to job opportunities. The hub will collaborate with high schools, universities, and leading technology companies to act as an educational hub, offering training programs, internships, and opportunities for both in-person and remote work. Additionally, it aims to equip high school graduates with essential digital skills for higher education.

Beyond education and business support, the digital park will house Cambodia’s first national data center, catering to both public and private sector needs. It will offer secure, reliable, and cost-effective data hosting services while serving as headquarters for technology companies. The initiative also seeks to attract regional and global tech firms to operate in Cambodia.

The park is expected to serve as a gateway to the ASEAN market, providing a platform to showcase innovations from startups, academic institutions, researchers, and the private and public sectors. It will also host national and international events to foster collaboration and public engagement.

According to Sokheng, MPTC is currently assessing potential locations for the digital park and planning the necessary infrastructure development. The project is anticipated to play a key role in advancing digital skills, supporting startups, and strengthening Cambodia’s digital infrastructure to attract investors and contribute to the country’s digital economy and society.
