Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 6 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet responded to a group of individuals harming cultural and religious values, calling on them to cease their activities.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Feb. 6) at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications's conference to review 2020-2024 work on the journey toward digital transformation, and outline future directions.

“When it comes to human rights, I acknowledge that individual rights exist, but they have limits when they impact the entire nation, its people, territory, language, religion, arts, and culture,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei continued, “If we do not protect our identity, we fail in our duty to safeguard our national culture. If individual rights infringe upon the collective good, they must be restricted. Some people claim that even minor actions lead to ministry intervention—please stop complaining! Keep such matters private and refrain from posting them online. You may express your beliefs personally, but do not undermine cultural values.”

“Please do not damage the heritage of our ancestors and the dignity of our nation. Regardless of how the world evolves, Khmer identity will endure. Khmer will remain Khmer because we uphold our cultural values and traditions. Let us work together to preserve our heritage and refrain from misusing rights and the internet to undermine our customs,” the premier concluded.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the Ministry of Cults and Religion, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the Ministry of Interior for taking further action against those responsible for damaging cultural and religious traditions.
