Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 11 – The impact assessment for the Funan Techo Canal Project officially commenced as Sderng Sokhom, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Deputy Chairman of the Impact Assessment Committee, and Kuoch Chamroeun, Governor of Kandal Province, led a forum on 10 November 2025, to discuss the evaluation of Section 1 in Kandal Province.
The forum gathered key officials, including Mak Sidet, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, along with technical representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, and the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology. Governors of district authorities and relevant local officials were also present.
Authorities affirmed their commitment to supporting the project and engaging with the public. The General Department of Impact Assessment will work directly with local authorities and residents to assess concerns and explain the project's implications. The impact assessment process is set to begin in the second week of February 2025.
