Kandal (FN), Feb. 11 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated that despite being both a father and the party leader, he does not interfere in the work or decisions of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Samdech Techo spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 11) during the inauguration
of various achievements on the premises of Wat Preah Int Samki Thorma in Kandal province.
Samdech Techo recalled that in the past, some commentators abroad claimed that Prime Minister Hun Manet’s speeches lacked directive authority, whereas his own speeches were more commanding. Samdech Techo explained that this difference stems from their respective positions. Previously, when Hun Manet served as commander-in-chief of the Cambodian Army and Hun Sen was Prime Minister, his speeches were naturally directive. However, circumstances have changed, as he no longer holds the position of prime minister, and decision-making now falls under the prime minister’s authority.
Samdech Techo also stated that while the party approves the political program, the prime minister must have sole authority to make decisions and lead both domestic and international affairs.
As a father, Samdech Techo wants the prime minister to make his own decisions and handle matters independently.
Even in situations where Samdech Techo wished to ask Samdech Thipadei something, he refrained from doing so directly. For instance, during a Royal Government delegation visit to China, instead of asking the prime minister himself, he inquired through Sok Chenda Sophea, the Foreign Minister, to avoid interfering with his son’s work.
Furthermore, as prime minister, Samdech Thipadei does not need to seek permission from Samdech Techo as his father. Similarly, during his tenure as Prime Minister, Samdech Techo only sought permission from the King for official trips abroad and later reported the outcomes of his meetings to the King.
