Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 12 – During a two-day official visit, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held talks with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on worker training and labour cooperation.

Cambodian Delegate Minister in charge of ASEAN Affairs So Naro spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 11) at a press conference on the outcomes of Samdech Thipadei’s official visit to the Philippines.

So Naro shared that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. informed Samdech Thipadei about the number of Filipino workers employed overseas, stating that approximately 10-12 million Filipinos are currently working abroad.

So Naro noted that while Cambodia has around one million workers employed overseas, the Philippines—a much larger economy—continues to send a significant number of workers abroad.

He praised the Philippines for its expertise in vocational training, which has played a key role in preparing workers for international employment.

Cambodia and the Philippines signed eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), including an MoU between Cambodia’s Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) of the Philippines. This agreement focuses on cooperation in education, technical training, and vocational skills development.

So Naro underlined that this collaboration in vocational training will enhance opportunities for Cambodian workers seeking employment abroad, enabling them to secure higher wages.
