Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 12 – Cambodian Delegate Minister in charge of ASEAN Affairs So Naro announced that the leaders of Cambodia and the Philippines agreed to increase the number of direct flights between Phnom Penh and Manila and establish new direct air routes connecting major tourist cities in both countries, including Siem Reap-Cebu and Phnom Penh-Cebu.
Delegate Minister So Naro spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 11) at a press conference on the outcomes of Samdech Thipadei’s official visit to the Philippines.
So Naro stated that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. discussed various areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, business, agriculture, health, culture, education, vocational training, technology, national defence and security, as well as strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Additionally, both leaders highlighted the importance of the tourism sector and agreed to support the expansion of direct flights between Phnom Penh and Manila, which currently operate five times per week.
Beyond the existing Phnom Penh-Manila route, the two governments encouraged the introduction of new direct flights connecting major tourist destinations, such as Siem Reap-Cebu and Phnom Penh-Cebu, to enhance tourism and economic ties.
So Naro further underlined that increasing direct flights will facilitate travel, trade, and business opportunities between the two nations.
In 2024, Cambodia welcomed approximately 6.7 million international tourists, with 2,396,937 arriving through its three international airports. That same year, nearly 70,000 Filipino tourists visited Cambodia, while direct flights between the two countries continued operating five times per week.
