Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet hailed the growing weekend crowds at Walk Street along the riverbank as a success, emphasizing that it reflects a shift in citizens' mindsets toward a more civilized way of living.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Feb. 19) at the graduation ceremony for more than 2,500 students of the Asia Europe University, held at Diamond Island Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Regarding this success, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet commended the Phnom Penh administration for its efforts in organizing, monitoring, and assessing the growing foot traffic on the Walk Street.

“In the early days, few people walked along the street, but in the following weeks, the number of citizens and international tourists steadily increased. This reflects a shift toward a more civilized lifestyle,” Samdech Thipadei stated.

Walk Street, launched by the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration on 1 February 2025, runs along Sisowath Avenue from Paschi Chamkorn Street (Street 94) to the Royal Palace and operates every Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

To enhance its appeal, the street features merchandise stalls, art performances, and mobile libraries. Over the past three weeks, Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng has conducted weekly inspections, noting a steady rise in visitors, including both locals and tourists.
