Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed authorities and road and sewer construction teams to install signs to facilitate public access to and from their homes and to clearly explain construction conditions to avoid misunderstandings.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (Feb. 19) at the graduation for students of the Asia Europe University, held at Diamond Island Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “When ministries and institutions build roads for the people, sometimes they have to dig ditches along the roads to raise the soil. But when this is necessary, they must also repair the affected areas and provide temporary access solutions, such as wooden planks or boards, to prevent inconvenience. Construction should be done thoughtfully, considering both the method and the impact on people's livelihoods.”
In addition, Samdech Thipadei added that contractual conditions with private companies should be set clearly, especially for subcontractors, to prevent public criticism directed at the Royal Government.
In this regard, Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed authorities to coordinate sewer projects before state-planned infrastructure developments and to ensure citizen participation is handled with clear explanations to prevent future disputes. He also highlighted that while the government allocates hundreds of millions of dollars annually for national, provincial, and rural roads, some areas develop faster than government plans, necessitating collaborative efforts with local citizens.
