Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that the well-being and livelihood of citizens remain the top priorities of the Royal Government. In this regard, Samdech Thipadei revealed that he had rejected a proposal to construct a USD 50 million road, opting instead to prioritise the development of a surgical hospital to save lives and improvements in the clean water sector to prevent illness caused by unclean water consumption.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Feb. 20) at the opening of the Cambodian Social Protection Week 2025 and launching of the National Social Protection Policy Framework 2024-2035 at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

Samdech Thipadei stressed that the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) must strengthen collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions to enhance the value of the NSSF membership card. The premier emphasised the need for efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, accountability, and accuracy in operations to ensure the timely and high-quality provision of healthcare services to members of the National Health Commission.

“The health, livelihoods, and well-being of citizens remain the government’s top priority […] We have made great efforts. The launch of Cambodian Social Protection Week 2025 should not be seen as a starting point, as 7.5 million people have already benefited since 2017, and we will continue to expand these efforts,” the premier underscored.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that, under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), the Royal Government remains proactive and continues to expand the scope of its social protection initiatives. He noted that, while some individuals engage in criticism without contributing to the nation’s development, the government remains focused on its commitment to the people’s welfare.

On the occasion, the premier affirmed that the Royal Government continues to serve the needs of the people, particularly in delivering public services. He stated that the government does not waste time on false promises or empty rhetoric but instead demonstrates tangible results through action.

Samdech Thipadei added that serving the people is the fundamental duty of the Royal Government, as the vast majority of Cambodians have placed their trust in the Cambodian People’s Party. Therefore, he asserted, there is no reason for CPP officials to neglect their responsibilities in addressing the people’s needs.

Meanwhile, Premier Hun Manet reiterated that as long as the Cambodian People’s Party remains at the helm of the Royal Government, the National Social Protection Policy will continue to be implemented to support citizens in all circumstances.

On behalf of the Royal Government, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reassured all Cambodian citizens that his administration remains committed to prioritising the improvement of livelihoods, the development of human capital, and poverty reduction. He stressed that no citizen would be left behind, as the government continues to steer Cambodia’s social protection system forward with strength and sustainability in pursuit of Cambodian Vision 2050.

To achieve this goal, the RGC has developed and launched the National Social Protection Policy Framework 2024-2035, with a long-term vision to provide support to citizens against income insecurity at each stage of life, focusing on promoting health and welfare, reducing poverty, gender inequality, and social inequality, and strengthening social solidarity, stability, and equity.
