Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 21 – Jihadist insurgencies in coastal West Africa are escalating, led by al-Qaeda-linked JNIM and IS Sahel. Using drones, IEDs, and mortars, their attacks have intensified, with state retaliation harming civilians.

In central Africa, Rwanda is accused of arming M23 rebels in the DRC, who seized a city last month. M23, a Tutsi-led group, claims to protect ethnic Tutsis amid long-standing regional violence.

Sudan’s military and RSF rebels are locked in conflict, while Myanmar’s junta uses scorched earth tactics against resistance, detaining 21,000 political prisoners and persecuting the Rohingya.
