Siem Reap (FN), Feb. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet underlined the need to enhance human resources in digital technology, highlighting that Cambodians are increasingly proficient in handling key tasks related to modern technology.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at the graduation ceremony of students of the University of South-East Asia in Siem Reap province.
Samdech Thipadei stated that the digital transformation is being implemented across various sectors, including religion, where mobile phones have become essential tools. He also pointed out the significance of e-Visas and e-Arrivals in the tourism industry, which have recently been introduced.
Samdech Thipadei said that purchasing tickets for Angkor Archaeological Park visits now relies on digital solutions, eliminating the need for physical cards and instead using QR codes. Additionally, even small vendors have adopted QR code payments.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei reminded that during the COVID19 pandemic, without digital systems, managing the crisis would have been far more difficult.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored, “Enhancing digital skills is crucial as it directly impacts our daily lives. The Royal Government is committed to strengthening investments in 5G infrastructure and developing policies for AI, as artificial intelligence is highly advanced. If we fail to adapt, it could pose significant risks.”
Premier Hun Manet further warned about the potential dangers of AI technology, citing incidents where even high-ranking officials in Italy were deceived through AI-powered scams.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reiterated that without skilled human resources, technological advancements alone would not be sufficient to keep pace with global progress.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet affirmed that Cambodia’s seventh-mandate Royal Government will continue to invest in digital infrastructure to improve efficiency and align with the Pentagon Strategy-Phase I, ensuring that digital technology becomes an integral part of people's daily lives.
