Siem Reap (FN), Feb. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Siem Reap province for its growing influx of tourists in early 2025, highlighting tourism as a key driver of the local economy and livelihoods.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at the graduation ceremony of students of the University of South-East Asia in Siem Reap province.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that tourism has immense potential to spur economic growth and create opportunities for other sectors. He attributed the steady increase in both domestic and international visitors to the country’s peace and security, stating that a safe environment is essential for sustaining tourism.

At the same time, the premier also praised the Siem Reap provincial authorities for maintaining security, cleanliness, and order, which help build confidence among visitors. Additionally, he highlighted the warmth and hospitality of the Cambodian people as crucial factors in attracting tourists. He encouraged further efforts to enhance tourism offerings and ensure visitors have memorable experiences that encourage them to return.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "This is our first time witnessing it firsthand, and we must continue fostering positive perceptions. Visitors will share their experiences, reaffirming Cambodia’s status as a premier tourist destination, as recognised by various international institutions and countries."

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed approximately 6.7 million international tourists in 2024, with Siem Reap receiving over 1 million visitors, generating approximately USD 47.8 million—an increase of over 28 per cent compared to 2023.

Notably, in January 2025 alone, 146,140 tourists purchased tickets to visit Angkor Wat, Koh Ker Temple, and Chong Kneas Port, marking a 26.49 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024. This generated USD 6.9 million in revenue, reflecting a 25.56 per cent rise from the previous year.
