Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed pride that the Muslim World League has recognised Cambodia’s ethnic and religious harmony, despite Buddhism being designated as the state religion under the Cambodian Constitution.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Feb. 27) at the opening ceremony of the Islamic Summit under the theme “Islam and Buddhism” at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that Samdech Techo Hun Sen has diligently worked to foster and preserve this harmony, as religious unity is an essential pillar of Cambodia’s long-term peace and stability. He reiterated that "Nation, Religion, King" remains Cambodia’s national motto.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, “Nation, Religion, King is the national motto of Cambodia, and while the Constitution designates Buddhism as the state religion, we take great pride in the recognition from the Muslim World League for Cambodia’s solidarity, tolerance, non-extremism, and religious harmony. This is a testament to the efforts of Samdech Techo Hun Sen who has worked tirelessly to uphold these values, as they are fundamental to Cambodia’s enduring peace and stability.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei continued that, as Samdech Techo Hun Sen recently stated, promoting religious harmony has always been a core principle of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP). He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing this policy, ensuring peace and harmony for all in Cambodian society.

All religions guide their followers towards morality, virtue, compassion, honesty, and kindness. Additionally, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed gratitude to the Religious Management Committee for its role in maintaining good governance among religious representatives and for actively supporting policies that promote ethnic and religious harmony across Cambodia.
