Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation to the Muslim World League for helping to organise this historic summit, marking the first time such a significant global Islamic event has been held in Cambodia.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Feb. 27) at the opening ceremony of the Islamic Summit under the theme “Islam and Buddhism” at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
Samdech Thipadei expressed his joy in reuniting with his Muslim community and recalled that on 7 December 2024, during the opening ceremony of the 20th General Assembly of the Regional Islamic Da'wah Council for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), he had pledged to attend this Islamic Summit.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, “I would like to express my appreciation to the Muslim World League for helping to organise this summit, which is the first time in history that such an important and globally significant event in the context of Islam has been held in Cambodia.”
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei reiterated that "Nation, Religion, King" is Cambodia’s national motto, with Buddhism designated as the state religion under the Constitution. However, he expressed great pride in the Muslim World League’s recognition of Cambodia’s commitment to solidarity, tolerance, non-extremism, and religious harmony—values that Samdech Techo Hun Sen has worked tirelessly to uphold as essential pillars of the country’s long-term peace and stability.
Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that promoting religious harmony is deeply rooted in the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and every government mandate under the CPP has consistently adhered to this principle.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei pledged to continue implementing this policy, ensuring lasting peace and harmony for all of Cambodian society.
