Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced plans to organise nighttime entertainment programmes at temples, particularly at the Terrace of the Elephants, to attract more tourists.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Feb. 27) at the closing of the 2024 annual meeting of the Ministry of Tourism at OCIC, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei noted that in some countries, a single pagoda can attract millions of visitors. He also recommended installing billboards showcasing tourist destinations at key locations, such as provincial entrances, roundabouts, and major towns.

“I encourage to consider organising nighttime activities. In Phnom Penh, we have not only indoor venues but also public spaces that could be utilised at night. [...] In Angkor, I previously suggested to Minister Phoeurng Sackona that we explore this idea. The Angkor Archaeological Park is quiet at night. For safety reasons, we cannot open all areas [...] but there are locations that could be used,” the premier underscored.

Prime Minister Hun Manet called for joint efforts to promote Cambodia’s beauty and urged tour guides to present historical facts accurately, ensuring that information is not misrepresented to visitors.

Additionally, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed his support for foreign film companies to shoot at the Angkor Archaeological Park and other locations across Cambodia. He added that such productions play a vital role in promoting the country, particularly its tourism sector, without the need for costly media sponsorships to showcase Cambodia internationally.
