Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 28 – Cambodian Ministry of Commerce confirmed on 27 February 2025 that it has not registered any business under the name Tongnam Trading Company or Tongnam Transport JV Co., Ltd., both of which are reportedly linked to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The ministry issued this statement in response to a report by NK News, which alleged that a North Korean company was openly advertising its control over joint venture restaurants abroad, including in China and Cambodia.

In this case, the Ministry of Commerce completely refutes the information published by NK News and reaffirms that there is no business registration for Tongnam Trading Company or Tongnam Transport JV Co., Ltd.. Additionally, a ministry team conducted research at the Korean product market in Phnom Penh and found no businesses associated with North Korean entrepreneurs.

The Ministry of Commerce has consistently enforced United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and Cambodia's applicable legal regulations by delisting and shutting down all businesses linked to 16 North Korean businessmen, companies, and enterprises in 2019 and 2022. It continues to work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant ministries and institutions to implement various sanctions in accordance with UNSC resolutions.
