Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 3 – Pich Chanmony, spouse of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Commissioner General of the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia (GGAC), emphasised that engaging in social work to support the most vulnerable not only fosters self-confidence and teamwork but also provides valuable lessons that cannot be learned in school.
She made these remarks at the 5th “Sister & Sister” programme, held under the theme “Women and Social Work” on 2 March 2025 at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event was attended by more than 2,000 young women, students, and members, along with the presidents of six association branches, including members of the GGAC (Phnom Penh and Kandal branches), the National Association of Cambodian Scouts (NACS), and the Samdech Techo Youth Volunteer Doctors Association (TYDA).
“Social work teaches us self-confidence and teamwork. It offers many benefits by helping us understand the essence of social work and how to build relationships with others. Social work is not restricted by age—it is better to start young. It begins with small actions, such as helping our parents, assisting classmates with schoolwork, and supporting vulnerable individuals in our community,” the Commissioner General underscored.
This marks the fifth edition of the “Sister & Sister” programme, which serves as a platform for experience-sharing and delivering key messages from the Commissioner General to members of the association.
This year, the programme focuses on the theme “Women and Social Work” in celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March, an occasion observed worldwide to promote women’s rights, freedom, and empowerment.
On this occasion, Pich Chanmony shared insights from her own experiences in social work and delivered four key messages to young women such as never engage in actions that negatively impact society; strive to study and acquire skills to become capable and qualified contributors to the nation; uphold virtue, morality, and noble manners while extending support to those in need; and cultivate a love for Cambodia, as no one values the nation more than its own people.
The “Sister & Sister” programme is one of GGAC’s initiatives, led by Pich Chanmony Hun Manet as Commissioner General.
The Girl Guides Association of Cambodia is dedicated to training and empowering Cambodian girls and young women, enhancing their confidence, skills, and leadership abilities. The association plays a crucial role in supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia by encouraging female participation in social work, education, and leadership development.
