Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on youths to actively support Cambodian arts and culture, speaking on Wednesday (Mar. 5) at the 27th National Culture Day at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Samdech Thipadei stressed that youth should work together to preserve and promote Cambodian arts and culture, emphasising that patriotism and a deep appreciation for the cultural sector should always thrive in the minds and actions of all Cambodians.
Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for its efforts, particularly in safeguarding high-risk art forms such as Lakhon Khol and Lakhon Yike. He noted that while some traditional performances have been revived this year, they are yet to gain widespread popularity. However, he acknowledged that progress is being made and urged continued efforts in research, documentation, dissemination, and implementation.
On the occasion, the premier also extended his thanks to Cambodian citizens for their strong support of the arts. He highlighted the recent Cambodian art performance on Diamond Island, which attracted a large audience, with citizens enthusiastically volunteering their support.
Samdech Thipadei encouraged past and future generations of artists to work together in promoting Cambodian arts and culture, including traditional games. He emphasised the importance of playing popular games to preserve cultural heritage, noting that while modern games have their place, popular traditions must also be safeguarded.
